The State University of Northern Negros (SUNN) had a productive and impactful week from May 12 to 17, 2025, marked by major academic events and partnerships focused on research, curriculum development, and student career support.
Research and Academic Summit 2025




The week began with the successful conduct of the Research and Academic Summit on May 13–14 at Park Inn, Bacolod City. Spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation (VPREI) and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), the summit carried the theme “Futures-Ready Curriculum and Research Culture Towards Quality Education.”
The two-day event gathered university officials, deans, program heads, faculty members, and stakeholders to discuss curriculum development, enrollment planning, research priorities, budget allocations, and policy updates through plenary talks, breakout discussions, and open forums. The summit underscored SUNN’s continued commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
MOA Signing with Sagay PESO



On May 14, SUNN and the Sagay Public Employment Services Office (PESO) formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the SUNN Board Room. The ceremony was graced by Sagay City Mayor Narciso L. Javelosa Jr., SP Member Roldan A. Gamao, and SUNN Chief Administrative Officer Mrs. Ma. Christina B. Delos Reyes, who represented University President Dr. Renante Egcas.
Also present were Dr. Ritchie Balandra, Director for Student Affairs and Services, and Ms. Gwen Lovella Luces, Career Development Coordinator. The agreement aims to enhance student employment initiatives and establish stronger collaboration with the local government.
SUNN and Provincial Government Partner for Student Career Services



On May 16, SUNN took another step toward empowering its students by signing an MOA with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental at the Provincial Capitol. The agreement was signed by Governor Bong Lacson and SUNN President Dr. Renante Egcas.
The partnership focuses on improving job matching and career guidance through services such as job fairs, labor market information, scholarships, and internships. SUNN will support these efforts by offering training programs, faculty expertise, and joint initiatives, demonstrating a shared commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive development.
Graduate School Research Colloquium 2025




Capping off the week was the opening of the Graduate School Research Colloquium 2025 on May 17, with the theme “The Pillars of Publication and the Power of AI: Advancing Research Excellence.”
Organized by the SUNN Graduate School, the event featured research presentations by graduating graduate students, highlighting the evolving role of artificial intelligence in academic research. The colloquium served as a platform for knowledge sharing and advancing research excellence within the university community.
