SUNN Weekly Wrap-Up: Advancing Excellence in Institutional Management, Research, and Cultural Advocacy

February 24-27, 2025 | State University of Northern Negros, Main Campus, Sagay City

The State University of Northern Negros (SUNN) has once again demonstrated its commitment to institutional growth, research innovation, and cultural advocacy through a series of significant events aimed at strengthening faculty and staff capabilities while supporting creative excellence.

Kicking off the week on February 24, 2025, SUNN hosted an ISO 21001:2018 – Educational Organizations Management System (EOMS) Awareness Seminar at AGM Hall, SUNN Hotel. With Mr. Ronaldo “Ron” Dalacan as the speaker, the seminar provided key insights into ISO 21001:2018, an international standard designed to enhance the effectiveness of educational organizations. The session was crucial in preparing SUNN’s focal group for the eventual implementation of EOMS, ensuring that the university maintains high-quality management systems that promote continuous improvement and learner satisfaction.

Simultaneously, SUNN’s Research and Development Office launched a Training-Workshop on Proposal Writing for External Grants and Funding, which ran from February 24 to 26, 2025 at the Board Room, SUNN Hotel. Recognizing the critical role of external grants in research advancement and institutional development, the workshop provided selected faculty researchers and staff with essential technical writing skills and strategic planning techniques to craft competitive research proposals. The sessions focused on identifying funding opportunities, aligning proposals with national research priorities, and enhancing skills in budgeting, sustainability planning, and project impact assessment. By the end of the training, participants produced draft research proposals and budget plans aligned with national funding agency guidelines.

To close the week, SUNN reaffirmed its support for the local creative industry by hosting the Margaha Film Screening in partnership with the Margaha Film Festival on February 26-27, 2025 at AGM Hall, SUNN Hotel. This initiative underscored the university’s commitment to promoting local filmmakers and cultural appreciation within the academic community. Attendees had the opportunity to experience thought-provoking films that reflect the rich narratives and diverse perspectives of regional cinema. This event highlights SUNN’s role in shaping a socially engaged and culturally aware generation of students and educators. The week’s activities not only strengthened SUNN’s institutional capacity and research capabilities but also highlighted its dedication to supporting artistic expression and community engagement. With these initiatives, SUNN continues to move forward as a dynamic institution committed to creating a meaningful impact in education and society.
