Information and communications technology has a vital role in nation-building. Personal information in information and communications systems in the University must be secured and protected.

State University of Northern Negros (SUNN) respects and values data privacy rights, and makes sure that all personal data collected from students, their parents or guardians, employees and other stakeholders are processed in adherence to the general principles of transparency, legitimate purpose, and proportionality as stated in the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (R.A. 10173).

Roles and Responsibilities of the Data Protection Officer

• ensure SUNN’s compliance with the DPA, its IRR and NPC Advisories
• investigate security incidents and data breaches and provide remedy
• assess the processes performed by the administrative and academic units to identify violations in the DPA and its IRR
• educate stakeholders and the community
• issue advisories and render opinions upon request

Independence, Autonomy And Conflict of Interest

The DPO must be independent in the performance of his or her functions, and should be accorded a significant degree of autonomy by the University President as stipulated in NPC Advisory No. 2017-01.
