A Bright Beginning: SUNN Welcomes Fresh SUNNrays for SY 2025–2026

The State University of Northern Negros warmly welcomed its new batch of students across all four campuses with a short but meaningful program on August 11, 2025, marking the opening of the first day of classes for School Year 2025–2026. The activity aimed to help freshmen transition into university life, introducing them to SUNN’s culture, values, and vision. University officials and faculty members were present to extend greetings and guidance, ensuring the first-years begin their academic journey with confidence and purpose.

In his message, University President Dr. Renante A. Egcas welcomed the first-year students to their “second home” and introduced the university’s core values—BRIGHT (Balance, Resilience, Integrity, Gender-Responsiveness, Honesty and Transparency, Technovation)—which the institution seeks to instill in every student. He reminded them that being part of a state university is a privilege, as they are “iskolar ng bayan” whose education is funded by the taxpayers. With this privilege comes the responsibility to complete their degree and to contribute back by becoming productive students and catalysts for uplifted communities and families.

Dr. Egcas affirmed that the first-year students, now officially part of the university community, are among its valued stakeholders and will be known as “SUNNrays,” united in fulfilling the institution’s vision and mission. He highlighted the presence of students of varying abilities as a testament to SUNN’s commitment to inclusivity. He also called on everyone to uphold the university’s core values through collaboration, remain steadfast in advancing its vision and mission, and actively support the newly launched zero single-use plastic policy. In closing, he expressed his gratitude to all, especially the freshmen, for making the State University of Northern Negros their second home.
